Sunni is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in Tennessee and Oregon specializing in trauma, complex-trauma, sexuality, and coping skills for emotional dysregulation. Sunni earned their Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2020, but has been working in the field of social work since 2015 within Nashville’s unhoused communities, and previously worked as a therapist at the Sexual Assault Center, focusing on clients in crisis. Sunni completed the University of Michigan's Sexual Health Certificate Program and holds a certificate in sex therapy, and loves to utilize sex therapy and somatic skills to help folks find reconnection with their bodies, partners, and their felt-sense of safety.
Sunni is deeply passionate about curating relationships in therapy, and she does that by showing up to each session authentically as herself- and in turn hopes that gives each client the space to do the same. Sunni believes wholeheartedly that therapy should be a space of safety, belonging, and collaboration. They believe they're on a team with each client, working together to find the way of merging skills and connection into your life- in the ways that you can truly see them fit. They aim to create a therapeutic space to stretch, grow, and learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Sunni is relational in their approach and loves to laugh with clients but will also gently offer that call-in that we all need from time to time. Sunni takes the approach that the client is the expert on themselves, and adapts each session to each individual client’s needs- no “one size fits all” approach to be found here. They prioritize getting to know each client as a whole person: everyone is made up of so many unique and expansive experiences that impact the lens through which they see the world, and every part is important and worth knowing. Sunni is level 1 and 2 trained in Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR and has had extensive training in DBT. In addition to working with trauma and anxiety, Sunni also loves to work with folks within the LGBTQIA2S+ community, exploring boundary work, attachment work, working with folks navigating their sexuality (in every definition of the word!), folks with ADHD who are struggling with executive dysfunction, and with folks looking to unpack given narratives that no longer serve them.
When not in session, Sunni can be found staring lovingly at their dogs: Kira, Isaac, and Moose, or with their partner exploring new antique shops, taking dance classes, hiking, birdwatching, listening to a podcast or audiobook, or engulfed in a pile of yarn soon to be woven into (yet another) crochet project. Sunni loves swapping book and podcast recommendations with clients, and yes, they absolutely want to see pictures of your pets.
